Welcome to our SEND page, dedicated to our school provision for children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)

SEND Local Offer

At our school, we are committed to ensuring that all children are supported to achieve their full potential, regardless of need. We provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is valued and supported to thrive both academically and emotionally.

As the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo), my role is to oversee and coordinate provision for pupils with SEND across the school. I work closely with teachers, support staff, families and external professionals to ensure that pupils receive appropriate, tailored support.

My role includes:

  • Identifying and assessing pupils’ additional needs
  • Supporting staff to plan and deliver inclusive, high-quality teaching
  • Monitoring the progress and wellbeing of pupils with SEND
  • Developing and reviewing support plans, including Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Ensuring that the voice of the child and their family is central to all decisions

I am also available to meet with parents and carers to discuss any concerns and to work collaboratively to support each child’s needs.

We work closely with a range of external professionals to ensure that pupils receive specialist support where needed. This includes working alongside:

  • Educational Psychologists
  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Specialist outreach services

As a school within Kirklees Local Authority, we follow local guidance and work in partnership with the Local Authority to ensure that support is coordinated effectively. This includes contributing to statutory assessments, attending multi-agency meetings, and ensuring that provision aligns with agreed plans and outcomes.

Strong collaboration between school, families, professionals, and the Local Authority enables us to provide a joined-up approach that supports each child’s development and wellbeing.

At Manor Road Academy, we are committed to addressing the social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs of our students, fostering essential skills such as resilience and perseverance to prepare them for real-world challenges. This commitment is intricately woven into our curriculum through the Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE) program and the My Happy Mind initiative, both of which promote a culture of inclusion and understanding. Our educators cultivate an environment in which making mistakes is perceived as an opportunity for growth, thereby ensuring that students feel secure in expressing themselves and learning. Additionally, we implement a comprehensive monitoring process to provide targeted support for those students with heightened SEMH needs, guaranteeing that every pupil receives the necessary guidance and assistance to flourish both academically and personally.
